India becomes the second team to occupy the No.1 spot in the world cricket across formats

India has now become the No.1 ranked team across all the formats after defeating Australia in the 3 ODI series on Friday. India has moved past Pakistan to claim the No.1 spot in the ODI ahead of the upcoming World Cup 2023 at home. In the men’s cricket team, India is only the second team to achieve this feat after South Africa.

India now has 116 rating points, one ahead of Pakistan after the first ODI victory over Australia on Friday 22 Sep 2023. However, to retain the top position India should remain unbeaten in the ongoing ODI series. India might lose the No.1 spot to Pakistan if Australia wins the remaining two games. India and Australia both had the chance to claim the No.1 spot, whereas Australia visited South Africa for 3 ODI, and India played the Assia Cup.

Australia lost all 3 games to South Africa but India won the Asia Cup to defeat Sri Lanka where an Indian bowler was the X factor in the final game, especially Mohammad Siraj who was achieved his career-best figure and awarded the Man of the Match award.

India vs. Australia:

In the first game vs Australia Mohammad Sami was the factor taking 5 wicket haul and four indian batters scoring half-centuries. Shubman Gill (74) and Rituraj Gaikwad (71) began the run chase and made it easy for other batters. In the middle, Adam Zammpa gets two quick wickets, but Suryakumar Yadav (50) and KL Rahul(58) are unbeaten on the run chase making India for comfortable victory. Gaikwad opened the innings in place of regular skipper Rohit Sharma, who is among several frontline players rested for the first two matches of the series to keep them fresh for the home World Cup beginning on Oct. 5.

India also has four players who are claiming the No.1 positions across formats:
T20 No.1 Batsman Suryakumar Yadav
ODI No.1 Bowler Mohammad Siraj
Test No.1 Bowler R Ashwin
Test No.1 Allrounder Ravindra Jadeja
